A few years ago, I was lucky enough to take my then teenage children on a short break to New York, where we had a fantastic time viewing all the iconic sights. However, one of the unexpected pleasures of the trip was discovering decorated ‘Apples’ on various street corners, and side-walks. Spotting these ‘Apples’ became one of the fun bonuses of the trip.
Since then, I have become more aware of the public art events in the UK, in 2008 we had King Bladud’s Pigs in Bath. Currently I am aware of two such events running in this country, although there could be more. So if you happen to be in Norwich this summer, do not miss out on GoGo Gorillas http://gogogorillas.co.uk/ , although regretfully the Freddie Mercury Gorilla had to be removed from his plinth yesterday. Likewise, in Bristol, there is Gromit Unleashed http://www.gromitunleashed.org.uk/ So if you find yourself in either of these fine cities this summer, do go and enjoy these art trails, great fun for children and the young at heart!
