We found ourselves in the market town of Hawes last week, which is on the first stage of this years Le Tour de France. It was brilliant to see just how much the town has taken the Tour to heart, with the whole centre decked out in bunting, many painted bikes lining the route and even red spots (which I later learnt is the colour of the jersey awarded to the King of the Mountains) painted onto many houses and businesses. Has any one had any experience of walking/cycling St Oswald’s Way in Northumberland? To be more specific can you cycle from Holy Island south on St Oswald’s Way to Bamburgh? Harveys have produced a new waterproof map to St Oswald’s Way, but it does not look as though you can cycle much of it. Would like some first hand experience from someone, please?
