  • Cancellations and Returns

    Cancellations - non personalised/bespoke items

The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 (formerly the Distance Selling Regulations) provide consumers with the right to a 'cooling-off' period to allow you to change your mind. Under these regulations, you have the right to cancel your order, without explanation, within 14 days of delivery (starting the day after you receive the goods) and to return the goods for a refund within a further 14 days (28 days in total). The Distance Selling Regulations do not apply to businesses nor to individuals who are trading or acting as a trader (buying goods to re-sell for profit) because no-one is the 'Consumer'. This means there is no 'cooling-off' period and the order cannot be cancelled once processed.

Prior to dispatch:Regardless of whether you are a consumer, business or trader, we are happy to cancel any order before dispatch. Contact us using the contact us opotion or by email at info@guysmagnets.com and we will cancel the order and initiate a refund. Please include the full name which your account is set up in, your address and your order number.

After dispatch: Send us an email at customers@mapsworldwide.co.uk or use the Contact form on this website within 14 days of receiving your goods stating that you wish to cancel the order. Please include the full name in which your account is set up, your address and order number. All products must be returned in their original packaging and in re-saleable condition. Failure to adhere to this requirement may result in transit damage in which instance the goods will not longer be in saleable condition. In these circumstances, no refund will be given and the goods will remain your property and will be made available for you or your agent or courier to collect at your convenience.

    • The cost of returning the item to us is the responsibility of the customer and this will NOT be refunded.
    • We do not accept underpaid postage items so you must ensure that you pay sufficient postage for the return to be delivered.
    • Failure to re-use the original package may result in transit damage.
    • We recommend that that you use a registered delivery/postal service for your own security and peace of mind.
    • Refunds are only issued upon receipt of the returned goods.
    • The address to send returns to is: Guy's Magnets Ltd T/A MapsWorldwide, 7 Couch Lane, Devizes, SN10 1EB, UK

    Cancellations - personalised/bespoke items

Where an order is placed for an item which is to be personalised or is bespoke, cancellation is not possible once production has started.

    Faulty or Damaged Items

In the extremely unlikely event that your item is damaged during transit or is faulty, we will, at our option, make good any shortage or replace any damaged of faulty goods or refund you to the amount you paid for the product provided that you notify us of the problem, by email, within 14 days of delivery of the goods. Nothing in this clause affects your Statutory Rights. Please send us an email at customers@mapsworldwide.co.uk or use the Contact form on this website; please provide details of the exact nature of the damage or fault. It would assist us if you would also send photographs of the damage or fault. We may, while deciding the best course of action, contact you by telephone or email for further information. We will also contact you to notify as to how the problem is to be resolved.

In the event of a manufacturing defect, we may, at our discretion, ask you to return the goods to us. In this, and only in this instance, will the postage charge be refunded by us upon receipt of the package.

All items that are in stock will show a delivery timescale of 1-3 working days.  If your order consists solely of these items, then dispatch is within 1 working day of purchase with the exception of framed and customised items which may take up to 14 days.

The item will be kept on order for up to three months and supplied to you when it becomes available. After 3 months, we will cancel the order or the remainder of the order unless you ask us to keep it on back order for longer. Incomplete orders will be held until the remaining items come into stock, unless we anticipate a long delay. At our discretion, incomplete orders may be sent out as partial shipments if we anticipate that an item may take some time coming in to stock.

You are free to cancel your order or part of your order at any time by contacting us.  Any monies paid for cancelled items will be refunded upon cancellation.

The status of your order may be viewed under "My Order History" from the 'My Account' page of the website.

The time taken for delivery will vary depending on where you are in the world. Orders, other than for the UK, are sent by Royal Mail Standard Airmail to the country of destination and then by local post, or by UPS to the country of destination and then by local courier. The NORMAL delivery times from dispatch of orders to delivery to your address are given in the table below. But this can vary outside the UK for a number of reasons beyond our control, including delays due to local customs restrictions.

    Delivery Timescales

    • United Kingdom - normally 1-3 working days for orders weighing under 500g, 2-5 working days for orders weighing under 20kg
    • European Union - normally 3-10 working days up to 2kg
    • Rest of the World Normal - normally 5-15 working days up to 2kg

These are guidelines only and may be affected by adverse weather, strikes, customs delays etc.  For UK based customers, you can see Royal Mail's Service Updates here.  For customers anywhere outside the UK, you can see the Royal Mail International Incidents Updates here.

  • Maps Scales Explained

What does the map scale mean?

One way of explaining the scale is say for a 1:25 000 map, one unit on the map, whether centimetres or inches, is 25 000 times bigger in real life on the ground. So of example if a road is 1cm on the map at 1:25 000 scale, in real life the road is 25 000 centimetres long or 250 metres or ¼ Km.

What is the difference between a Small Scale and a Large Scale maps.

The difference between a small scale and a large map can be confusing. A small scale map is something like a road atlas or road map at a scale of something like 1:250 000. It is a map that covers a large area, but in less detail. Whereas a large scale map is a map that covers a smaller area in more detail, these are generally the walking and cycling maps at 1:25 000 or 1:50 000 scales. Any scales above these two will not generally have sufficient detail for walking, the 1:25 000 being the best scale.

For a given map size, a large scale map covers a smaller area of ground and conversely the smaller scale map covers a larger area of ground. Another way of remembering it is, the larger the scale number, the less detail the map. So a 1:500 000 scale map will have far less detail than say a 1:75 000 scale map.

    The best maps for walking.

The best generally available maps for walking are the 1:25 000 scale, although you could use the 1:50 000, but they would have less detail than the 1:25 000 maps. However, some countries do not have maps at this scale and you may have no alternative but to use 1:50 000 or 1:75 000 scales.

    The best maps for cycling.

The best maps for cycling are probably the 1:50 000 maps, but if you need to plan your route over a larger area, you map also need a 1:100 000 or 1:125 000 map.

    The best maps for driving.

The best maps for driving are going to be from 1:250 000 to 1:500 000 scales. Folded maps are obviously useful for this if you wish to open it out to plan a route. Otherwise an atlas is going to be the next best thing. Atlases that are spiral bound will lay flat easily in the car, but they do tend to fall apart more quickly with use than a paperback or hardback atlas. The main problem with a paperback or hardback atlas is that they will not always lay flat on the car seat. You end up having to keep finding your page.

  • Map Scale Equivalents

Maps scales can be expressed as a ratio or as a distance on the ground to a distance on a map.

For example, Ordnance Survey Landranger maps are 1:50,000. This means that 1cm on the map is 0.5km (or 500m which is 50,000cm) on the ground.

In the UK, we tend to look at distances in miles and maps in inches. The following is a list of scales and their approximate ‘Miles to Inches’ conversions:

    Map Scales
    Map ScaleMiles to Inches
     1:10,000 1 mile = 6.25 inches
     1:11,400 1 mile = 5.5 inches
     1:14,000 1 mile = 4.5 inches
     1:15,000 1 mile = 4.2 inches
     1:20,000 1 mile = 3 inches
     1:25,000 1 mile = 2.5 inches
     1:42,000 1 mile = 1.5 inches
     1:63,000 1 mile = 1 inch
     1:100,000 1.6 miles = 1 inch
     1:126,700 2 miles = 1 inch
     1:150,000  2.4 miles = 1 inch
     1:200,000 3 miles = 1 inch
