Lake District
I have been editing our website recently and got to the section on the Lake District; i could not help remembering the great holiday K and I enjoyed there a few years ago. We were there in July, but true to form, it was cloudy and rainy on several days. However, the weather enhanced the beauty of this iconic area, with the fells playing ‘hide and seek’ in the mist. Yet on other days we had brilliant sunshine and I remember on one occasion sitting by Buttermere in complete isolation except for a family of ducks! It is a part of the county I would love to visit again, and continue to explore, it the meantime I have settled for the raised relief map of the Lake District as a reminder!

I recently reread Swallows and Amazons (yes, as a mature adult!) and thoroughly enjoyed it. It really evokes the whole spirit of the Lake District so well and is a great read.
I first read Swallows and Amazons as a child, and it made me long to visit what seemed then an enchanted place!
