The Höhenweg, with a length of around 285 km, is the longest of the three Black Forest longitudinal routes, the "classic" starting in Pforzheim and finishing in Basel. You hike through wide coniferous forests and deep valleys, over the Hornisgrinde, past Lake Titisee, over the Feldberg (1495 m - the highest mountain in the German low mountain range), the Belchen and the Blauen. The Westweg connects the highest peaks of the Black Forest with each other - a total of 10 peaks over 1000m. There are only 12 villages along the way, the last section between Feldberg and Basel offers magnificent views.
Suggested number of stages: 12 to 14 depending on fitness and time. Total metres in altitude: 10000, awarded the "Qualitätsweg Wanderbares Deutschland" seal of approval, marked with a red diamond.
