This detailed map covers the small Cardiganshire of Aberaeron (or Aberayron) which in 1904 was in the twilight years of its prosperity as a port. The town spans the parishes of Llandewi Aberarth Lower and Henfynyw Lower. The town is shown here in detail, including individual houses, and features include the Workhouse, breakwaters, Pant-teg, Pen y Gloyn, quarries, Goetre etc. On the reverse is a 1906 directory of the town.'

This detailed map covers the small Cardiganshire resort and harbour of New Quay. Features include the harbour, New Quay Head, the streets and houses of the town centre, St Llwchaiarn's church, Towyn Chapel, and many outlying houses. Coverage extends a mile west to the coast of Craig Grogal. New Quay is a small town and in 1901 its population was just 1, 234. It had already begun to decline as a port and Alan Leather's introduction gives a good portrait of its history. Also includes a 1906 directory of the town, making this an essential title for anyone interested in the history of New Quay.

These One Inch to the Mile maps, which are included together, cover much of SW Cardiganshire. Coverage stretches from Aberayron southward to Cenarth (and just north of Newcastle Emlyn), and from Llechryd eastward to Dilhewid and Ciliau-Aeron. There is a good section of the Cardigan coast, including New Quay, and on the back are more detailed maps of two small Ports: Llangranog and Aberporth in 1904. It is not possible to list the many hamlets, farmsteads and other topographical features shown on these maps. However, you might find it useful if we here list the majority of the principal villages and church parishes that are included on this map.
This detailed map covers the small town of Lampeter, which in 1820 had been chosen as the site of St David's College, today part of the University of Wales. Lampeter was also a significant agricultural centre, and a collecting point for drovers. In 1901 it had a population of 1, 722. Our map shows the town centre in some detail, and other features include the railway station, Workhouse, Glyn Saw Mill, Peterwell Schools, St David's College, St Peter's church, Peterwell, Cwm-Rhys Quarry; to the south the map has a fragment of Carmarthenshire with Tivy Side Tannery at the bottom margin. Includes a directory of the town on the reverse.

This Inch to the Mile map is split between Cardiganshire and Carmarthenshire, with Lampeter near the left centre of the map. The only other town is Tregaron. Coverage stretches from Llanybyther eastward to Pen y Gurnos, and from Tregaron southward to Dolaucothy. The'Manchester & Milford Section' railway runs through the map, while to the east is a more remote, wilder area, the Cambrian Mountains, described by Alan Leather as "one of the few true places of solitude left to us, with red kites and buzzards sweeping over a bare land of rock, rough grasses, black lakes, bogs and crystal streams". On the reverse is an extract from Cardiganshire Sheet 27.01 and this shows the little town of Tregaron in more detail.
This Inch to the Mile map covers an entirely rural area, from immediately south of Aberystywyth southward to just north of Tregaron. The'Manchester & Milford Section' railway runs through the map, and part of the Devil's Bridge narrow gauge line is also shown. Other features include the Strata Florida abbey, and various lead mines (though that industry was in decline). On the reverse is an extract from Cardiganshire Sheet 14.11 showing Llanrhystyd in detail in 1904, complete with directory. It is not possible to list the many hamlets, farmsteads and other topographical features shown on these maps.
This One Inch to the Mile map covers north Cardiganshire, with coverage stretching from Aberysytwyth and the coast eastward to Drosgol, Drybedd and the Cambrian Mountains; and from Aberdovey and the remote Dovey Junction station southward to Llanbadarn-Fawr and Aberysytwth. The Cambrian Mountains dominate the eastern half of the map, an area where, as Alan Leather tells us, "a walk must be taken with cautious steps - beware open stopes and grown-over engine shafts!" Several old lead mines are marked on the map. On the reverse, by contrast, is a large scale, detailed map of the seaside village of Borth. It is not possible to list the many hamlets, farmsteads and other topographical features shown on these maps. However, you might find it useful if we here list the majority of the principal villages and church parishes that are included on this map.
