This One Inch to the Mile map covers the northern coastal area of Norfolk around Cromer and Sheringham. Coverage stretches from Morston and the Blakeston Channel eastward to Southrepps, and from the coast southward to Gunton Park. The map features an interesting stretch of coastline, where railway communications - including here the Suffolk Jount Railway and Midland & Great Northern Joint Rly - had helped Cromer and Shgeringham grow from villages into modest seaside resorts; while further west Blakeney had declined as a port as ships became too large (in 1904 a 73 ton coaster was stranded here for a month before it could sail out). On the reverse is an extract from Norfolk Sheet 9.04, covering the village of Cley next the Sea in detail, complete with a directory.
This One Inch to the Mile map straddles the border between Norfolk and Suffolk, with coverage stretching from East Harling eastward to Mendham, and from Hempnall southward to Hoxne and Oakley Park. The River Waveney forms the boundary between the two counties, and its valley was once known for its linen manufacture. As usual in East Anglia, large numbers of small villages are shown, many showing a Hall and even moat. There are just three towns shown, Diss, East Harling and Harleston; a large scale map of Harleston is included on the reverse, giving a detailed picture of this market town, with its station, windmill, and principal streets - Broad St, The Thoroughfare and London Road.
Featuring Lakenheath Warren, now covered by the American Air Force Base, and on the reverse a directory of residents of Lakenheath including many of my ancestors this One Inch to the Mile map straddles the border between Norfolk and Suffolk, with coverage stretching from Feltwell and Lakenheath eastward to Bridgham and Knettishall, and from Methwold southward to Barningham, which is in the SE corner. This is an area known as Breckland, a name coined in the 1890s by the naturalist W G Clarke. This was a remote and thinly populated district, and at its centre is Thetford, once a cathedral city and the sixth largest town in Saxon England, but by 1907 a'sleepy backwater' according to our author, Alan Crosby. Notable features on the map are areas of parkland, such as Shadwell Park, Euston Park, Wretham Park, Buckenham Tofts Park etc. and there are still areas of undeveloped heathland such as Lakenheath Warren and Bridgham Heath. On the back is a detailed map of Lakenheath, with directory. It is not possible to list the many hamlets, farmsteads and other topographical features shown on these maps.
Dominated by the many man made drains and dykes this One Inch to the Mile map covers the southern part of what was once the county of the Isle of Ely. Coverage stretches from Wimblington eastward to Shippea Hill station and about 3 miles beyond, and from Southery southward to Witchford. The principal place on the map is the cathedral city of Ely. Most of the rest is fenland, most of it reclaimed. Among those named are Mildenhall Fen, Middle Fen, Feltwell Fens, Byall Fen, and many others. The Old Bedford River, New Bedford River, Forty Foot Drain and Sixteen Foot Drain run through the map, as do the River Ouse, River Lark, Little Ouse, all helping to drain the fens. This is therefore a map with its own character. On the back is an extract from Cambridgeshire Sheet 25.10, covering the village of Mepal in detail, complete with a directory. It is not possible to list the many hamlets, farmsteads and other topographical features shown on these maps. However, you might find it useful if we here list the majority of the principal villages and church parishes that are included on this map. Cambridgeshire: Coveney, Downham, Ely, Littleport, Manea, Mepal

This One Inch to the Mile map straddles the border between Norfolk and Suffolk, though covering rather more of the southern county. Coverage stretches from Homersfield station eastward to the coast, and from Lowestoft southward to Southwold. On the reverse is a detailed map of the village of Wrentham, complete with directory. Several towns are on the map: Lowestoft, Beccles, Bungay, Southwold and Halesworth, along with numerous small villages, including the complicated Ilketshall and South Elmham parishes.
