This Inch to the Mile map covers much of east Radnorshire, with fragments of Shropshire and Herefordshire to the east. Coverage stretches from Llanddewi-Ystradenni eastward to Bucknell and Kinsham, and from Hopton Castle southward to New Radnor. Radnorshire's little capital, Presteigne is on the map, complete with its branch railway, and the lovely Central Wales line winds through the map. Radnor Forest is near the foot of the map. On the back is a detailed map of New Radnor, a former capital of the county, together with a directory; this still describes it as a "market town and ancient borough", despite a population of just 405. It is not possible to list the many hamlets, farmsteads and other topographical features shown on these maps.
This Inch to the Mile map covers the border area between Brecknockshire and Herefordshire, with a spur of Monmouthshire intruding from the south. Coverage stretches from Llanhamlach eastward to Dulas, and from Glasbury southward to Pen Cerig-calch and Partrishow. Edward Parry describes this as classic border territory, with the Black Mountains at the heart of the map. The finest building on the map is the ruined Llanthony priory in the lovely Honddu valley. A few railways - the Cambrian's Mid Wales line, the Brecon & Merthyr Railway - run west of the mountains. The only town on the map is Talgarth and on the reverse is a large-scale, detailed map of this, showing St Gwendoline's church, Market Hall, station, High Street, and the buildings that go to make up a small town centre.
This Inch to the Mile map covers much of northern Herefordshire. Coverage stretches from Hereford northward to the outskirts of Leominster, and from Weobley eastward to Bromyard. This is orchard country and Derrick Pratt notes that "by 1790 fifteen varieties of cider apple and six of pears were being grown within the county by'people of all stations'", and that "with its interspersed hopfields the north Herefordshire landscape takes on a unique, distinctive appearance".
