This early One Inch Ordnance Survey map covers the area from Carlisle westward to Skinburness, southward to Dalston and northward to Gretna Junction. Unfortunately the area of Scotland north of the Solway Firth is left blank. Most of Carlisle itself is shown and other features include the railway lines to Port Carlisle, much of the Carlisle & Silloth Branch, and the Solway Railway up to and including its bridge across the Firth. The reverse includes a detailed map of the village of Kirkbride, including its station and Angerton; the junction with the Solway Railway - here called the Kirtlebridge Annan & Brayton Branch - was just south of the village. It is not possible to list the many hamlets, farmsteads and other topographical features shown on these maps.
This early One Inch Ordnance Survey map covers the area from the eastern suburbs of Carlisle eastward to Featherstone Castle and Blenkinsopp Hall. The only town is Brampton but other features include Naworth Park, much of the Alston Branch railway, several of Lord Carlisle's mineral lines, Geltsdale, Glendue Fell, Tindale Fells, stretches of Hadrian's Wall etc. The reverse includes a detailed map of the village of Wetheral, including Wetheral Abbey, Corby Castle, Great Corby, station, Corby Gates, Holy Trinity church etc. Although most of the One Inch map is in Cumberland, a strip of Northumberland runs down the eastern side. The Sellafield and Ravenglass areas are of especial interest, but the map also includes a detailed map of the village of Gosforth.
This detailed map covers the port and resort of Silloth, created in the mid 19th century. The railway opened in 1856 to serve a new Cumbrian port, with a steam packet to Liverpool, and a resort quickly followed. A new dock was built in 1885, after the first one had suddenly collapsed. Our map covers the town and dock, with coverage including the Marshall Dock, New Dock, railway station and sidings (with track layout), Convalescent Institution, pier, Christ Church, Criffel Street and handful of streets leading off it, The Green, West Silloth. On the reverse is a large section of sheet 15.05 covering the earlier port town of Port Carlisle, where a seagoing canal was opened in the 1820s. This was later replaced by a railway, with an initial steam train service which became horse drawn until the 20th century. The map shows most of this tiny village (it never progressed into a town), including the station.

This detailed map is double-sided for maximum coverage. It covers the village of Nenthead which in the 19th century grew into a mining town of over 2, 000 people, developed by the Quaker London Lead Company, and with pensions, education and health resources that foreshadowed the Welfare State. By the time of this map it was in rapid decline, and during the 20th century the population sank to around 350. The main map covers the northern part of the village, including Whitehall, Holmsfoot, Wellgill Dykehead, Brownleyhill Dressingfloor, Greenends, Foulard, and stretching east to Haggs Mine and Nentsberry. On the reverse is a large section of adjacent sheet 42.03 which covers the village centre and the Rampgill Mine, part of which forms today's Nenthead Mines Heritage Centre.'

This early One Inch Ordnance Survey map covers the Cumbrian Coast area from Silloth to Maryport, including both those towns. We have linked up the two maps for the area. Coverage stretches from Silloth southward to Camerton and Papcastle, and the railways are a major feature in the southern part of the map. The reverse includes a detailed map of Fothergill and Risehow, showing the West Cumberland Chemical Works, Risehow Colliery and the northern end of Flimby, including Rye Hill and Pennygill Row.
