From the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, the Pyrenees rise as a natural border of snow-capped peaks, rugged cliffs and sweeping valleys. Three routes traverse from coast to coast - the French GR10, the Pyrenean Haute Route (a mountaineering route) and the GR11, which traverses the range on the southern, Spanish side.
The GR11 is an 820km long-distance trek, divided into 45 stages between Irun on the western edge, through the Spanish Pyrenees and Andorra to Cap de Creus in the east. The Spanish side often has good weather and is known to be more scenic. This trek is full of diverse landscapes and stunning mountains, as well as picture-perfect villages and mountain huts for most nights. However, it passes through difficult, remote areas, and requires experience of high mountain trekking.
Alongside detailed route descriptions of the 45 stages illustrated by route maps and photography, this guide also features practical advice, such as notes on accommodation, alternative routes, where to resupply, language and logistics. The combination makes this guide the ideal companion for trekkers on the GR11.
