| Landscapes of Tuscany (Sunflower Books, ISBN: 9781856912983) Tuscany - this most favourite of Italy's inland regions has been one of our most-requested destinations. We think enthusiasts of our guides will be delighted with the resulting book. It covers walks and tours ranging from the Carrera marble quarries in the northwest down to southern Tuscany, with a particular emphasis on the countryside round Florence and in the Chianti, making it especially suitable for those who wish to combine a visit to Florence with seeing something of the Italian countryside. (If you plan to do this, you'll need one of the many good city guides that are available for your exploration of Florence, whilst this new 'Landscape' will show you the best of the rural scene.)
In addition to the walking and touring notes, this book contains a wealth of information about Tuscany's customs and cuisine, flora, fauna and history all of them illustrated. The author has been resident in Tuscany for many years.
Best months for walking: September to June
Where to Stay: if you are going to rely on public transport to reach the walks, you will need to stay in a city (Florence or Siena). If you will have a car, you will have much more scope and you can, for example, opt to rent a villa in the countryside or a room or apartment on a farm, which will often be located in delightful scenery.
8 car tours, 50 Long and short walks, 15 picnic suggestions

| Landscapes of Umbria & The Marches (Sunflower Books, ISBN: 9781856912747) Umbria promotes itself as ‘Italy’s Green Heart’, and it’s true that the colour green dominates the landscape — from the glistening silver-green olive groves above Lake Trasimeno to the dark green holm oak woods edging the Valle Umbra and Valnerina and up to the oak forests, mountain pastures and high grassy plateaus of the Monti Sibillini. This picture is not only true for Umbria, but also for the lesser-known neighbouring region of the Marches. The main focal points of this guide are the two most beautiful areas of the Apennines in Umbria and the Marches — the idyllic, deeply-etched valley of Valnerina in Umbria and the legendary Monti Sibillini which rise to almost 2500m and lie mainly in the Marches. Naturally there is a wealth of art and architecture to be seen en route, whether you travel by car or on foot.

| Landscapes of Western Provence (Sunflower Books, ISBN: 9781856912570) This is the second edition of the second book of a two-volume guide to Provence, written by the authors of the prize-winning Landscapes of Madeira. It is intended for motorists who want to tour the most beautiful roads in western Provence and Languedoc/Roussillon and enjoy some superb walks along the way. Beginning at Aix-en-Provence, you travel west via the Lubéron and Mont Ventoux to the great Roman cities and the Pont du Gard. After forays north to the Ardèche, the Tarn and the Cirque de Navacelles, head south through Hérault to Carcassonne and the Canal du Midi. Crossing the Corbières and the Land of the Cathars, you reach the foot of Canigou, holy mountain of the Pyrenees.
The book is also ideal for those taking city breaks to southern France with the budget airlines. From bases like Carcassonne, Perpignan, Nîmes, Marseille, Montpellier many walks and tours lie within easy reach.
The touring routes have been described in such detail that there is no need to make constant reference to a map. The walks selected all set in areas of great natural beauty and historical interest are those the authors believe offer the greatest sense of satisfaction for the effort involved. These are not tough GR routes, but mostly circular walks suitable for moderately fit people.
Best months for walking: generally March to June and September and October, but most of the walks described can be enjoyed throughout the winter months.
Where to Stay. The book covers a lot of ground; touring bases are suggested at the start of each tour. If you're travelling out of season, there is no need to book ahead. If you're just taking a short budget city-break, many walks will be within easy reach, but you will have to hire a car, as public transport in western Provence and Languedoc-Roussillon is limited.
12 car tours, 50 long and short walks, 33 picnic suggestions

| Turkish Coast: Antalya to Demre: Sunflower Complete Guide (Sunflower Books, ISBN: 9781856913270) This new series combines the best features of ‘Landscapes‘ with all the detail you would expect in a hefty general guide, but they are all pocket size (the page size is just 15mm wider than ‘Landscapes‘ books) and in full colour. All the authors have been visiting Turkey for many years, writing general and walking guides. Dean Livesley was one of the original developers of the famous Lycian Way, Turkey‘s first long-distance footpath. A key feature of the book is coverage of the Lycian Way as day walks, with full transport details. Besides being intrepid explorers, Brian and Eileen Anderson are botanists and keen cooks! The main part of this book concentrates on the area west of Antalya, known both in antiquity and today as Lycia. Historical descriptions of the wild, fissured Lycian coastal region abound with superlatives. And the landscapes that sent so many writers into raptures have not changed for centuries. Despite all the hymns of praise, Lycia’s thinly populated coastal strip long remained untouched by tourism. It was so isolated that for a short time it even became a place of exile. Today, thanks to the building of Antalya’s international airport, millions of visitors happily spend their holidays in the places where unwanted dissidents were once forcibly detained. The whole Lycian Peninsula takes in a very large area and this volume concentrates on the region between Antalya and Demre/Kekova, east of Kas.
Coverage: Getting there and getting about • Recommended accommodation, campsites and restaurants (all with prices) • Practicalities A-Z • History • 15-20 main walks with many variations, all with large-scale topo maps • Fold-out area maps • Detailed town plans showing locations of all sights, hotels and restaurants • Many ‘feature‘ panels
Best months for walking: April, May, September or October. Where to Stay: For ease of access to bus services, stay in or near one of the towns shown on the map below. If you are hiring a car, choose any resort near the main coastal road.
Area covered: Many correspondents tell us their knowledge of the geography of Turkey is very limited, and want to know which resorts are covered in each of the books. We reproduce here a simple map of Turkey showing the locations of the principal towns within the three regions covered by our Turkey titles. To check if a specific resort is included in one of the books, click on the options above to check the book's contents or index. If you are unsure of the locations of smaller resorts in relation to the areas covered in our guidebooks, please refer to the maps appearing in tour operators' brochures.

| Turkish Coast: Bodrum to Marmaris: Sunflower Complete Guide (Sunflower Books, ISBN: 9781856913294) All the authors have been visiting Turkey for many years, writing general and walking guides. Dean Livesley was one of the original developers of the famous Lycian Way, Turkey‘s first long-distance footpath. Besides being intrepid explorers, Brian and Eileen Anderson are botanists and keen cooks! They guide you through the most beautiful landscapes of the region. A Turkish poet once described the area between Bodrum and Marmaris as ‘terrifyingly’ beautiful. Silver-leaved olive groves and wild inland mountains yield up the stone remains of ancient civilisations. The dazzling multi-coloured bays, framed by fissured cliffs and collared with golden sand, are the stuff of dreams. Snuggled into the coves are romantic fishing villages, where you will be greeted with genuine Turkish hospitality. And in Bodrum and Marmaris you can mix with the Turkish jet set. In some old mountain villages and along isolated sections of the coast there are more and more small quiet places to stay. This new series combines the best features of ‘Landscapes‘ with all the detail you would expect in a hefty general guide, but they are all pocket size (the page size is just 15mm wider than ‘Landscapes‘ books) and in full colour.

| Turkish Coast: Kas to Dalyan: Sunflower Complete Guide (Sunflower Books, ISBN: 9781856913287) This new series combines the best features of ‘Landscapes‘ with all the detail you would expect in a hefty general guide, but they are all pocket size (the page size is just 15mm wider than ‘Landscapes‘ books) and in full colour. The Lycian Peninsula takes in a very large area — running between Antalya and Lake Koycegiz south to the sea. It is impossible to do justice to the entire spread and feature walks in one book, so this volume concentrates on the region between Kas (including Kekova to the east) and Lake Koycegiz. A key feature of the book is coverage of the Lycian Way as day walks, with full transport details. A companion book, covering the stretch from Antalya to Demre, takes in the rest of Lycia. Historical descriptions of the wild, fissured Lycian coastal region abound with superlatives. It has been called the most beautiful in Turkey. And the landscapes that sent so many writers into raptures have not changed for centuries. Despite all the hymns of praise, the peninsula’s thinly populated coastal strip long remained untouched by tourism. It was so isolated that for a short time it even became a place of exile. Today, thanks to the many flights into the airports at Antalya and Dalaman, millions of visitors happily spend their holidays in the places where unwanted dissidents were once forcibly detained.
