Divided into Turkish (north) and Greek (south) - speaking entities since 1974, the island of Cyprus is feeling its way towards reunification and, once again, tourists are able to cross from one side of the island to the other without having to go via Istanbul. This large-scale, detailed map shows the entire island and is perfect for touring, either by bus and shared taxi or by rented car. In the south, drive up to the remote Akamas peninsula or through the impressive Troodhos mountains; in the north, which is much less developed for tourism, you'll have the charming port city of Kyrenia which is the main event, and the fine beaches of the Karpas peninsula, pointing towards Syria, which are often all but deserted.
